Hopper's speech to the grasshoppers - transcript

18 March 2011

A Bug's Life

In the 1998 animated movie A Bug's Life, the leader of the grasshoppers (the Zionists) explain what would happen if the stupid ants (the Goyim) were to realize that they don't have to be under the control of the grasshoppers. Some interesting remarks:

• "if they ever figure that out..."
• "If you let one ant stand up to us, then they all might stand up!"
Will the little ants figure it out? Watch the excerpt:

Here is a transcript of Hopper's speech to the grasshoppers from A Bug's Life.

(The scene is set in the nest of a group of grasshoppers. The focus is on their leader, Hopper (GL), and four others (G1, G2, G3, and G4).)

[Preamble: This time, due to an accident, the ants of Ant Island could not gather the food for a protection racket of grasshoppers. Non finding the tribute in the ant colony, the grasshoppers now want a double amount of food in a short time. Once back to their nest, one of them suggests to their boss to stay and not to go back to Ant Island since they have already plenty of food and the trip to the ant colony would be dangerous being the rain season very close.]

(GL): Guys, order another round… because we’re staying here!

[The grasshoppers cheer.]

(GL): What was I thinking? Going back to Ant Island. I mean, we just got here, and we have more than enough food to get us through the winter. Right? Why go back?

[Hopper is perplexed.]

But there was that ant that stood up to me.

[Hopper places himself directly in front of three grasshoppers, G1, G2, and G3, and next to the chute of a silo where grains are stored; the other grasshoppers observe the scene in the background.]

(G2): Yeah, but we can forget about him!

(G1): Yeah, it was just one ant.

[G3, joking, simulates fear for one ant.]

(G3): Uuuu.

(GL): Yeah, you’re right! It’s just one ant!

(G1): Yeah, boss. They’re puny!

(GL): Hmm, puny. Say, let’s pretend this grain is a puny little ant.

[Hopper removes a grain from the silo and throws it at G1, hitting him.]

(GL): Did that hurt?

(G1): No!

(GL): Well, how about this one?

[Hopper removes another grain from the silo and throws it at G2, hitting him.]

(G2): Are you kidding?

[The grasshoppers laugh.]

(GL): Well, how about this!?

[Hopper suddenly breaks the chute and all the grains cascade over G1, G2, and G3; killing them; Hopper climbs the fallen pile of grains and speaks to all the shocked grasshoppers.]

(GL): You let one ant stand up to us… then they all might stand up. Those puny little ants outnumber us 100 to 1, and if they ever figure that out, there goes our way of life! It’s not about food; it’s about keeping those ants in line. That’s why we’re going back! Does anybody else wanna stay?

[All the grasshoppers together get ready to fly; G4 address a grasshopper next to him.]

(G4): He’s quite a motivational speaker, isn’t he?

[Hopper to all the grasshoppers.]

(GL): Let’s ride!

[Hopper and the grasshoppers take off and ride back to Ant Island.]
